Increase wildlife attack death compensation by 50%

As part of the June 5, 2026 human-wildlife conflict action plan, the Forest Department announced a coordinated portal to streamline and expedite victim compensation payouts, alongside direct talks with insurance companies to roll out a dedicated life and property insurance scheme for hill-region and forest-fringe residents.

Under the upcoming June 5 forest action plan, the UDF government committed to a 50% increase in death-related compensation for wildlife attack victims, as formally outlined in the Governor's May 29 policy address. This builds on the March 2026 revision by the previous administration which set the baseline compensation at ₹14 lakh.
